Turtel Island-Koh Tao

" Ik Onkar Sat Nam Karta Purakh Nirbhau Nirvar Akal Murat Ajuni Sai Bhang Gur Prasad Jap Aad Sach Jugad Sach Hai Bhi Sach Nanak Hosi Bhi Sach "
" Let the LIFE TRAVELS to the turtle island-Koh Tao"
Koh Tao little more than 21 square kilo meter is located about 70 km east of the coastline between Suratthani and Chumphon, in the Gulf of Thailand.
Koh Tao means Turtle Island, because in the past the waters in the area had been rich with sea turtles, nowadays they have mostly moved on to other breeding grounds.
Initially the island was not inhabited, there was only the occasional fisherman from the neighboring islands, looking for shelter in a storm or just taking a break before continuing his tiresome journey.
On June 18, 1899, His Majesty the King Chulalongkorn (Rama V 1868-1910) visited Koh Tao and left as evidence his monogram on a huge boulder at Jor Por Ror Bay next to Salree Beach. This place is worshipped even today and should be treated with respect.
It will take about three hours by ferry from Surat Thani on the mainland, one and a half hours from Koh Samui, and around an hour from Ko Pha Ngan. Chumphon is the place to take all kind of boats, some take as little as 90 minutes, but others will take 5 hours.
Scuba diving is by far the biggest attraction on Koh Tao, and it is easy & to enjoy seeing nature’s great creations a lot of fish, turtles, stingrays, barracuda, reef sharks, and even a whale shark. To get good diving weather on Koh Tao apart from November, when the sea is choppy, and visibility is poorer than normal. The visibility can be over 40 metres during the rest of the year.
